you want dollars per mile

so you need to divide the 35 and 3.09 in such a way that and units cancel out

(dollars/gallon)/(miles/gallon)=dollar...

[tex] cost per mile =(3.09)/(35)=0.088 [/tex]

it cost about 0.088 dollars per mile
