If 9 is subtracted from a certain number and the difference is divided by 3, the result is 1 more than
1/7 of the original number. Find the original number.

Answer:

Let the number be x.

(x-9)/3= (x/7)+1

(x-9)/3= (x+7)/7

Cross multiplying

7x-63= 3x+21

4x= 84

x= 42
